Successful completion of the Healthy Eating Day program.

Recently we noticed that many of our young people espeically those who were leaving the homes did not have a good understanding of how to look after themselves from a nutritional point of view and thus the Healthy Eating Day was developed.

The program was run in the recent school holidays in Thailand and the older children from the Haven Homes, and some of the trainees were invited to discuss healthy eating habits, proper nutrition and how to use modern day appliances safely.

The day started with a discussion of the healthy food pyramid and a visual presentation of portion sizes.  The was followed by a discussion on getting enough vitamins and minerals and problems that can come from inadequate intake, followed by a slide show for visual effect.

The afternoon was spent discussing modes of cooking what is better for what types of food, as well as the proper usage of refrigerators, freezers and microwaves.

Overall the day was well recieved and many questions asked (a sure sign of listening teenagers), as well as some positive feedback, ensuring that we might be running further courses in the future.
