Clinics at a local children's home
Most of the children’s home that I visited were established before Cyclone Ngaris but I went to one that was children who had been either orphaned by the cyclone or their whole village had been destroyed. This included their homes and schools. Visiting these children, teaching them basic health education and supporting these new house parents was a wonderful experience. |
Recently I was invited to travel to Yangon and spent time with one of the local foundations. This group provides free medical support to many of the children’s homes in the area, as well as an onsite free clinic for the poor. Many of the homes are for children whose family live outside of the capital but the children are unable to access adequate education. In Yangon there are so many children in the classes that they are split into two a morning and an afternoon class. This means that the children only go to school for a half day everyday. I went out with the medical team to a number of the homes, providing regular health checks for the children and basic health education. There was also an opportunity to provide health teaching to a group of School Graduates heading to the Delta region to provide assistance.
